Persons evaluated at New Hope Learning Centers, Inc. for academic achievement often display multiple learning problems. In fact, according to the U.S. Department of Education, 56% of students with dyslexia also demonstrate poor mathematics achievement. Further, 43% of children diagnosed with a Math Disorder, also have poor reading skills. In recognition of these facts, New Hope Learning Centers, Inc. provides the following programs and services:
NHLC INITIAL ASSESSMENT
The NHLC Initial Assessment is required prior to participation in services at NHLC. Standardized evaluations generally include academic achievement in reading, math and writing; evaluation of visual and auditory processing of language symbols; assessment of basic reasoning abilities; and the evaluation of perceptual abilities. These assessments coupled with an intake questionnaire, pinpoint strengths as well as weaknesses and become the basis of measuring academic and personal gains resulting from program services. All results are thoroughly reviewed with an adult client or with the parents of a younger client. A written narrative is provided for each evaluation. The Initial Assessment takes approximately 4-5 hours. Half of that time is spent in assessment and the other half in consultation. Specific and measurable client goals are established prior to beginning services.

An individualized* accountability program in which a client meets on a regular basis with a NHLC counselor. The purpose of this program is to continue progress of word mastery; to address continuing academic/personal goals of the client; and to facilitate problem-solving skills for the individual. Attention, visual, auditory, perception and coordination skills are reinforced. This service is designed to complement and support, not replace, the Davis home study program. For the best results the minimum recommended commitment to this program is three hours a month for twelve consecutive months.
